Cat Women at Hazel Ridge Veterinary Clinic
Recently there was an article in the Sacramento Bee regarding the recent increase in popularity of cats as pets.

This came as no suprise to us here at Hazel Ridge Veterinary Clinic! Our many staff members who are "owned" by cats appreciate the ways our felines enrich our lives. We are in the veterinary business because of our passion for all animals, but like you, we each have our favorites. We thought you might enjoy learning more about our special "Cat Women."

Dr. Rebecca Harrod graduated from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and has been practicing here ever since. At that time, she and her husband Mark were owned by five cats.  Since then, they have added three children – Connor, Skyler, and Savannah- and a Great Dane – Farley – to their family.  In spite of this, all of her cats are still around and cherished.  She had a scare last year when the cat food she was feeding was found to be part of the national pet food recall crisis, and the hospital was full of the “Harrod Clan”.  Great intensive care therapy resulted in 100% survival and they are all back home running the household.  Dr. Harrod is our go-to cat person.  If any of the other veterinarians are stumped, or need the very latest information about a particular feline problem, Becky is the one we seek out.  She is a current member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and is frequently attending continuing education for the very latest in feline medicine.

Cidny Villegas, RVT is our “cat whisperer” nurse.  Cid graduated from Cosumnes River College Animal Health Technician Program and has been a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician for 24 years.  Although she is good with all animals, Cid has a very tender heart towards cats – especially the very old, sick or scared.  Cid also spends a tremendous amount of time nurturing and fostering orphaned kittens through the River City Cat Rescue.  We are very proud of Cid’s efforts, and offer free veterinary services to her kittens.  The Rescue Group is very appreciative of any donations – supplies, food, money-that you might wish to contribute, and these can be dropped off at the front office in care of Cid.

One of the first things that new clients notice about Hazel Ridge Veterinary Clinic is the separate entrances for dogs and cats.  Although the dogs don’t seem to care much, the cats really appreciate this.  Throughout the hospital, special equipment and housing for cats can be found to ensure their special needs are met.  Most important, we strive to get them back home to you where they belong as quickly as possible.  Thank you for trusting your precious felines to us.
